Blessed with Rain

Posted by Liz McCoy Wednesday, August 27, 2008 View Comments

We've been abundantly blessed so far with all this rain from the hurricanes & tropical storms.  You may or may not know that Georgia has been in a drought for the last 8-10 years.  The last 2 years have been pretty serious!!!  Lots of water conservation and not watering lawns washing cars etc.  We've been blessed to have been receiving a bunch of rain the last 3 days from all the storms in the gulf and carribbean.
One of our main resources for drinking water is Lake Lanier & the Chattahoochee they have been very very low as of late.
(October 2007)

Robin Nelson / Zuma Press file

Perilously low water levels in Lake Lanier Reservoir north of Atlanta is threatening the metro area's water supply.

Chattahoochie in Helen, GA (This is the river we just went tubing on a few weeks ago)

This is most likely on the "long run" that the tubing company offers.  We've only done that once in the 10 years we've been going to helen to tube.  b/c the water is soo low you have to walk your tube most of the way.

So I wanted to let you know that Lake Lanier has already gone up a 1/2 a foot as of yesterday from all the rain.  And here are pictures of the Chattahoochee river in Helen:
http://www.wsbtv.com/slideshow/news/17302398/detail.html

Here was the about state of the river when we were going down:  You will see from the slide show that the water is really high and no rocks are showing.  Also you'll see a bridge and the water is almost to the bottom of the bridge.  We go under that bridge!!! WOWZERS!!!

Goal for Today: Clean off my desk

Posted by Liz McCoy Monday, July 14, 2008 View Comments

Okay I'm at work today and I have 5 state taxes due tomorrow. And of course my desk is over run with to do stacks. My method to day of attacking these stacks is the SIZE method. I'm starting with the fat-est file and biggest bundles of papers and working my way down to the individual sheets & to do post-its!

Priorities...

Posted by Liz McCoy Monday, June 2, 2008 View Comments

A friend of mine recently blogged about her priorities in life and how she doesn't consider her self her number 1 priority but she is #4 on her list. I definitely see her point, and it reminded me of my priorities in my life and how my priorities don't line up with hers.

As a believing woman & mother my first priority IS myself. Does that sound selfish to you??? Well perhaps but here is why. I believe that my first priority is my relationship with GOD. I need to keep that relationship strong and vital so I can live my best life for Him, my heavenly father. This strong relationship is what makes me available, spiritually, phsyically and emotionally for other people in my life. Having an clear understanding of God's desires for my life help me to be LESS SELFISH---MORE GIVING---MORE LOVING towards others.

My second priority is the relationship I have with my husband. We strive to be like minded and in one accord as a married couple. We both work hard to keep our marriage relationship in harmony with what God's Word says it should be. We endeavor to communicate on all things like our hopes & dreams, to the status of the laundry. Again, having a strong marriage relationship based on biblical principles helps us both to be available to other relationships.

My third priority is the relationship I have with my child (and children in the future). Every day I endeavor to raise my child in the nurture and admonition of of the Lord. I instill and encourage him to make decisions based on the Word of God as that is my foundation, the foundation of my marriage, and the foundation of our family. Right now my son is only 22 mos so his biblical based decisions basically come down to choosing to OBEY his parents in the Lord (Eph 6:1). I discipline my son (appropriately for his age) according to the Word. I am showing him by my example how to set the priorities in his live and how to CHOOSE to make his relationship with GOD his first priority.

Lastly my priority is to give and support God's Household of Believers. Having my #1-3 priorities in order makes me my best for the Household. I am able to give of my self more and I am able to love God's people greater!!! And what a joy it is to know that you're walking with God.

So that is what I got blessed thinking about today and I thought I'd share with you my priorities in life and show you why I proudly say I am my #1 priority.

ToDo Saturday

We had a bunch on our to do list for today but we didn't get to them until 4pm. No problem though we enjoyed our pancake breakfast, our relaxful morning/afternoon.

Now we're headed downtown to the container store and ikea. I want to look at the options both stores have for recycling bins. I also desperately need a purse organizer, I'm tired of always searching for my keys in my not too big purse :-P

I'm going to vomit...I wabt a hybrid

Posted by Liz McCoy Thursday, May 22, 2008 View Comments

I remembered I HAD to get gas after work. I am pulling into the gas station outside my office see the gas price at 3.85 per gallon for the cheap stuff! My stomach did a flip and a flop. I really wish I couldn't remember when gas prices in my same neighborhood were .69 per gallon.

I thank God I only drive 3 days a week to work and that dh is still driving our economic accord.

I don't even want to imagine 7 / gal prices like they are forcasting.

Man, what is the solution? For us its to cut back... Way way back. We will be claiming the abundance God promises in his word by stewarding the money we have spending wisely so he can work mightily within our specific situation.

My ideal would be to get a hybrid. I love the fact that you can save money without altering your driving lifestyle. I'll lift that desire to God and it will happen one day.

Purge Purge Purge

I'm sooo excited this Saturday is our annual Garage Sale!!!! Yippie!!! We're cleaning out our house and selling lots and lots of clutter to us but treasures to others (we hope).

I think I've talked in the past about how much better I feel when we're organizing and getting things out of the house. Well I'm actually anxious over things because I want to make sure I get all the clutter out. I'm just so ready not to have every little knick knack and baby toy and serving dishes etc.

I have decided to part with my serving dish collection. Yep that's right I'm letting go. I really really really am in love with cake plates and pretty serving pieces but I have to get realistic. The last cake I made was so long ago I honestly can't even remember ever making one!!! I did however make a batch of jumbo cupcakes for dh's birthday last week.

This Thursday and Friday I am off work so that, my mother and I can both go through the basement (where we keep all the for sale stuff) and price it. We will set up Friday night as much as we can. We plan on getting out all our tents too!! If the ground isn't wet maybe things will spill off onto the front yard and not just on the driveway.

We all are pretty pumped after helping out with our friends garage sale a few weekends ago and how successful it was in the pouring down rain!

We know we'll have that same success because God will bring us just the right buyers.

Busy Day!

Posted by Liz McCoy Wednesday, April 16, 2008 View Comments

Yesterday was a busy busy day. My mom came over and we (mostly her) scrubbed on our hands and knees our kitchen floor. We vacuumed a bit and I put away 2 laundry baskets of clothes away. That was before lunch then we went to Costco and Target after lunch to pick up some needed grocery items.

We were getting ready for dh's birthday!! The big 26!

We had dinner for my family and I made cupcakes and after eating we all played the wii. A simple & fun birthday.

After that busy day I was TIRED and fell asleep as soon as my head it the pillow.

How I got Blessed this weekend.

Posted by Liz McCoy Monday, February 11, 2008 View Comments

Well here are a couple instances where God blessed me this weekend.

1. I was able to go into work on Saturday and accomplish a good bit and also get things in order for me to see what I need to accomplish these next couple weeks.
2. Rosie watched Jack during fellowship so Kenny and I were able to hear the teaching in its fullness. Which was a tremendous blessing to me. Normally I'm half distracted.
3. The teaching was on love and true agape love. Agape love is different than brotherly love or the love between a man and a woman. Agape love is the love of and for God in the renewed mind manifestation. We learned that our love for people needs to be that agape love that is how we live like Jesus Christ and how we love God's children as God loves them.
4. DH and I were able to play outside with Jack yesterday because the weather was beautiful and we did it without distraction or guilt of feeling like we needed to be cleaning or picking up, etc.
5. After playing outside for a couple hours we straightened up the garage and took a load of garage sale items over to the storage. This cleared up alot of room in our garage. I also was able to pack up much of the toys I bought after xmas for jack's birthday and next xmas. I love opening the door to the garage much more now!!!

Well I hope you recognize how God has blessed you the last few days.

Agape!

Reduce Reuse...ReOrganize!

Posted by Liz McCoy Wednesday, January 16, 2008 View Comments

Well I had been looking for a way to store my son's large wooden puzzles with handles etc. They have a few on the market but they don't have ones big enough for some of his jumbo puzzles. My mom suggested using boxes and I remembered having extra FedEx boxes at the office that we don't use b/c we switched shipping companies. I used my new cold heat cordless glue gun (dh gave me for my birthday) to glue the boxes together. I folded the flaps inside the box to give it more structure. Here is how his puzzle shelf turned out I'm soo please and it fits all the puzzles just right:

Productive Thursday

Posted by Liz McCoy Friday, January 11, 2008 View Comments

I feel really blessed with all I accomplished yesterday while at home with ds. Grandma took him to the chiropractor in the morning which allowed me to work on the dishes and toys then when he got back it was time for his nap so I got a couple more hours to finish putting away straggling holiday decorations and repack our holiday lights adding in the new ones we purchased this year. They're all ready to be put out in the shed this weekend. I got the file cabinet in the kitchen and am starting to plan out the kitchen desk. I really want to get the final design done this weekend and get the supplies/order the counter monday. We need to get that finished in order to get my organizer back over here so we can finish up the filing which had been moved to the garage for the holidays.

My friend Sarah and I are going to the Container Store on Saturday so I can pick up some more containers for storage of toys and stuff. Ack!! I definitely have spent alot of money on stuff after the holidays this year. I found some great toy deals for ds's birthday and even next xmas.

I'm off to work today and I'm confident that I will be able to focus on work and not what I need to do at home, which is what usually happens then when i'm at home i'm all concerned with what i need to accomplish at work...ARGHH what a cycle. I can usually do good at work when I know i'm in a good place at home and haven't left anything undone and the house isn't a complete disaster.

Anywhoo...hugs everyone!!!

My Birthday

Posted by Liz McCoy Monday, December 24, 2007 View Comments

Yesterday was my birthday I'm 26 now! It was a pretty good day didn't have tooo great of a time I have a stuffy nose and a scratchy throat but i've been loading up on vitamin C and taking colloidal silver. Jack has a stuffy nose too. Not a very fun holiday so far I really want to get better quickly so I don't have to feel soo yucky. I was surprised that I didn't get many greetings or phone calls but oh well the ones I got were special. And it's pretty typical for people to not remember since there is so much going on with the holiday.

We went to Dh's brother's house for the cousins to exchange gifts and that was nice. Jack had some good practice opening presents. I'm glad I brought one for him then he'd have 2 to open. It was a 45 minute drive to their house things went pretty well Jack got a bit restless going there but had lots of fun playing in his cousin's kitchen.

Today we're having dinner with my parents, dh's parents, 2 sisters and 1 BIL should be fun. I will be preparing my first glazed ham. I have to get some sided together too. We still need to get the tree finished and put the presents under it. We got the tree out of the box and a strand of lights doesn't work so we've been trying for a few days to get it going but nothing is working...very irritating.

I'll take pictures of our holiday gathering and post them soon.

Hugs!

Word in Business Breakfast 10-13-07

Posted by Liz McCoy Monday, October 15, 2007 View Comments

What a great meeting!  I thought I'd review alittle bit about the sharing that Rev. Royal shared with us at the Word in Business Breakfast this past Saturday.

The title of the teaching was "The Needful Thing".  One of the main points that she made was what is the needful thing at each moment in your life.  That is a decision we need to make constantly.  If the needful thing is to prepare your home for fellowship then checking your email or starting a work project is not what you should be doing.  That's how we become over whelmed and scattered when we don't focus and ask ourselves what the needful thing is.

Another point that I took away was priorities!! This falls in line with the needful thing.  This was a teaching that healed my heart and energized me.  I have been feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and scattered with things lately.  And I know what my problem is but didn't want to really do anything about it.  I haven't been in The Word.  I had been doing a little but not ENOUGH.  I was/am limiting God. Where are my priorities???  Am I putting things before God yes and that's where I need to change.   She shared how she works so that she can serve (the household).

What a great way to look at things and how to put things in perspective in terms of priorities.  I do try to serve the household and others but things get stressful in other areas...and getting my priorities straight will give me more open doors.

Anyway this falls inline with what I'm trying to do with my life this year.  I really am endeavoring to live a simple and decluttered (mentally & physically) life. Hmm...think God can help with that??? YES!!!!!!!!!!!

Tomorrow the organizer is coming over to assess the office...tomorrow night is my STS video night with dh...I'm anticipating a productive day!
